Japanese crossword «Discus thrower»

Agree with above comments. Normally if I give in and use a hint, it shows me something that should have been completely obvious. This puzzle I used hints and could not figure out at all how they were calculated. (and they didn't help, had to use petermilley's technique anyway.)
