Never heard a tape measure called a yard stick, must be a translation error. Yard sticks are generally wooden rulers 1 yard (almost a meter) long

I'm sure it's a translation issue. The puzzle maker isn't English and the word they used could refer to a yardstick or a tape measure. Auto-translation is a science, but actual translation is an art.
